Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into a shooting incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park at the moment officers were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Background
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office initially responded to Howe Community Park just after 6:30 PM after getting calls of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, additional information came in about a potential altercation taking place at Howe Park.
Air support was sent to survey the area but reported no active disturbance. Even so, it became clear that an enormous crowd had assembled at the park in an unauthorized manner.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Responding units set about removing people from the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers commanding attendees to clear out. About 15 minutes were allotted for individuals to vacate.
At the height of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots caused mass panic. Law enforcement quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Ultimately, four victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — made up of one woman and three men all believed to be in their twenties — were taken to nearby hospitals. Doctors and nurses reported that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. In a positive development, all four were in stable condition.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and helped triage the injured before they were taken to the hospital.
Crime Scene Evidence
The center of the incident seemed to have been concentrated on Cottage Way near the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators recovered additional shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were noted in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the Home Depot. This evidence confirmed that one of the gunmen had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly for hours.
Suspect Information
Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a Kia Sacramento park shooting 2026 had been detained in Solano County. Four people were detained. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video that was reviewed showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
